Pirate Maths Day 2019
We had a fantastic piratical and mathematical day with Captain Morgan from As Creatives. We all came to school in amazing pirate outfits. Captain Morgan launched the day with a whole school assembly. The children all took part in lots of mathematical challenges and had lots of fun with Captain Morgan in their class workshops and completing pirate themed maths with their teachers.
After school we had an amazing turn out for our Family Maths Workshop where parents and carers came to take part in maths activities and to find out about ways they could support further learning at home.
Celebrating Maths at The Ellis
We love rewarding marvellous maths at The Ellis. Every week, our pupils make it tricky for teachers to pick just two mathematicians (out of the whole school) to be our Mathmagicians of the week.
The Mathmagicians feature in Mrs Hurdings weekly newsletter and they get to keep a special cushion and wizards hat to use in class for the week. Our pupils are named during our special Gold Awards Celebration every Friday. Children aspire to be the Mathmagicians and work hard to improve their mathematical skills.
Times Table Rock Stars
Every child from Y2-Y6 at The Ellis CE Primary School has a Times Table Rock Stars account. Children can log into their account at home and practise their times tables.
Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of times tables practice. The scheme has been designed to support the development of quick recall of times tables and related facts.
We have Times Table Rock Star assemblies each term to help motivate the children, celebrate those who have worked hard to improve and to encourage friendly competition between year groups. The winner of the competition becomes the school champion and receives a trophy to keep until the next competition takes place.
