Active Travel
Active Travel Plan Feb22-Feb24
Here at The Ellis, we encourage children to arrive and travel home from school in an active way. Previously, we have worked with Modeshift Stars to try and improve our active travel to and from school.
Modeshift STARS is the national school’s award scheme, that has been established to recognise schools who have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel.
The scheme encourages schools across the country to increase levels of sustainable and active travel in order to improve the health and well-being of children and young people.
We regularly run activities to encourage children to stay safe whilst active on their way to and from school and when out and about in the local area.
Some of the activities we have provided are: bike it breakfasts, smoothie bike, get off stabilisers in Key Stage 1, learn to ride Key Stage 2, led bike rides in the local area and also general cycle maintenance skills.
We also work annually with Active Barnsley to ensure our Year 5 children have Bikeability.
We have plenty of storage around school for bikes and scooters and love seeing your children arrive to school on these.
