Celebrating Writing at The Ellis
We love rewarding amazing writing at The Ellis. Every week, our pupils make it tricky for teachers to pick just two writers (out of the whole school) to be our King and Queen of the Jungle.
The King and Queen feature in Mrs Hurding’s weekly newsletter and they get to keep a special cushion to use in class for the week. Our pupils are crowned during our special Gold Awards Celebration every Friday. Children aspire to be the King or Queen of the Jungle and work hard to improve their writing.
Spelling Shed
Every child from F2-Y6 at The Ellis CE Primary School has a Spelling Shed account. Children can log into their account at home and practise their weekly spellings.
The Spelling Shed – proudly powered by EdShed – is a spelling platform designed by a team of teachers. It is built with students, teachers and parents in mind and aims to make spelling fun for students as well as simple for adults to manage.
The scheme has been created following key National Curriculum objectives and will take children through the statutory and non-statutory spelling lists in each age phase.
The whole-school scheme of work for spelling gives 100% coverage of the National Curriculum including all statutory words and spelling rules. The scheme is broken up into a weekly progression with a Spelling Shed list for each week.
The game has been developed to be dyslexia friendly using the Open Dyslexic font and has three levels of difficulty to support pupils of all abilities through the spelling lists with appropriate degrees of challenge.
