Active Travel
Here at The Ellis, for the past three years we have been working closely with staff from Modeshift Stars and Sustrans.
Modeshift STARS is the national schools award scheme that has been established to recognise schools who have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel.
The scheme encourages schools across the country to join in a major effort to increase levels of sustainable and active travel in order to improve the health and well-being of children and young people.
We regularly run activities to encourage children to stay safe whilst active on their way to and from school and when out and about in the local area.
Some of the activities we have provided are: bike it breakfasts, smoothie bike, get off stabilisers Key Stage 1, learn to ride Key Stage 2, led bike rides in the local area and also general cycle maintenance skills.
We also work annually with Active Barnsley to ensure our Key Stage 1 children receive Balanceability and our Year 5 children have Bikeability.
Last year we improved the percentage of children who are coming to school in an active way and we received the Silver award from Modeshift.
